Every December, we do it again.We grab a notebook or open our phones and start typing out the usual:Lose 25 pounds. Quit smoking. Get stronger. Save more money.

And then February shows up… and most of those goals disappear.Not because you’re lazy. Not because you don’t care.But because the goal was never the problem — the perspective was.

You don’t need new goals.You need a new why.

The Year Everything Changed

At the start of 2025, I told myself I wasn’t going to just set goals this time.I was going to become the person who could live them.

I wanted to grow CrossFit Fiend, sure.But I also wanted to grow me — the man leading it.

So, I set goals that reflected who I wanted to be, not what I wanted to have.I started studying Spanish every day.I committed to reading and studying personal growth and mindset.I began paying extra on my house.Not because those things look cool on paper —but because I see the man I want to be 10 years from now.

He’s financially free.He’s fluent in the language of his friends and community.He leads a thriving CrossFit gym that changes lives.He teaches mindset and personal growth to people all over the world.He’s a dad who’s present and wise,a husband who leads with faith,and a man who lives with peace.

That’s the man I’m becoming.That’s my “why.”

And here’s what’s wild — once I focused on that, the rest started falling into place.But not without a few surprises along the way.


The Six-Pack Revelation

One of my goals used to be to have abs you could grate cheese on.You know — the classic “CrossFit specimen” look: six-pack, perfect pecs, competition-ready shape.And I’ll be honest — for a long time, that goal motivated me.I’ve competed, coached, and lived that life.

But somewhere this year, I felt a shift.

I realized that being that perfect, stage-ready athlete would require every ounce of my time, energy, and focus.And if I gave everything to chasing physical perfection…what would be left for my real purpose?

I don’t need to be a walking anatomy chart.I need to be a man who can move well, feel great, stay healthy, and have the energy to think clearly, love deeply, and lead fully.

I don’t need the discipline to chase trophies anymore.I need the discipline to live with intention.

That’s a transition a lot of us will face eventually — whether we’re 25 or 42.We outgrow the goals that feed our ego, and we grow into the ones that feed our purpose.

I’m not done working out — not even close.But now my training serves my mission, not my mirror.And that realization changed everything.


The Shift: Who You Want to Be, Not What You Want to Do

When we set goals, most of us start with what we want to fix.“I want to lose weight.”“I want to quit smoking.”“I want to stop drinking soda.”

But every time you do that, you put your focus on the problem.You see the cigarettes.You see the scale.You see the struggle.

You can’t walk toward freedom while staring at your chains.

If your eyes are locked on the obstacle, the obstacle grows.But if you look for the path — even just one step at a time — the path begins to clear.

So stop setting goals around what you want to quit.Start setting goals around who you want to become.

Because when you focus on becoming that person,your choices begin to align automatically.

You stop seeing resistance.You start seeing results.


We Shape What We See

You and I — we create our own reality by where we place our attention.If you only look at the obstacle, you’ll trip over it every time.But if you look toward the outcome, you’ll start to notice the small, daily steps that move you closer.

That’s not just mindset — that’s faith.

God gave you the ability to create, to focus, to build.You’re not just setting goals; you’re shaping your life through attention and action.

When you imagine the person you want to be and start living like them,you’re co-creating with God —honoring the life He gave you by growing into your potential.


The Transition We All Face

Maybe you’re at that same point I hit this year.You’ve worked hard. You’ve achieved a lot.But something in you knows it’s time for a new direction —not away from discipline, but toward purpose.

You don’t need to be the strongest person in the room anymore.You need to be the wisest.You don’t need to win the next competition.You need to win your peace.

That’s the evolution of growth — the moment when you stop chasing admiration and start living in alignment.And that’s the kind of goal that lasts.


The Challenge

So before you write down another resolution, do this:

Go look in the mirror.Really look.

Ask yourself:Who do I want to become in 2026?What does that person do every day?How do they carry themselves?What do they focus on?Who do they serve?How do they love?

Then write that down — not as a goal, but as a commitment.

Tape it to your bathroom mirror.Put it in your phone background.Read it every morning.And live like that person already exists.

Because they do.They’re already inside you, waiting to be built — one decision at a time.
